Initiators

  • Antje Krause

Management of Haus Daheim prevention and rehabilitation clinic, women's health activist

It is high time to make our vision of an equal and diverse society a reality. I am particularly inspired by the power that comes from solidarity, sisterhood and connection. 100,000 mothers in front of the Brandenburg Gate - what image could better express our unwavering will for real change?

  • Dr. Dagmar Hertle

Physician, women's health activist, Arbeitskreis Frauengesundheit e.V.

Women carry out the majority of paid and unpaid care work - and most of them are mothers. But they receive far too little support. At the 2023 AKF conference on maternal health, it was clear that it is not enough to keep naming the problem - there must be visible changes. This urge for action gave rise to the idea of gathering 100,000 mothers in front of the Brandenburg Gate and making their voices unmistakable.

  • Rebekka Rupprecht

Managing Director of the Mothers' Convalescent Home

Care work concerns us all and therefore also the health of mothers and other people with care responsibilities. For me, the campaign symbolizes a large community that recognizes this, shows solidarity and stands up for better framework conditions.

  • Andrea Boyer

Managing Director Ev. Müttergenesung Württemberg gGmbH

I am thrilled that so many organizations are joining our campaign. It's time for mothers to have a stronger lobby and be heard.

  • Sarah Zöllner

Journalist and author. Founder of the action and networking platform #MütterMachtPolitik

I am fascinated by the networking idea behind this campaign! Mothers and people with caring responsibilities need to be much more present in all areas of society. Only if we reach a critical mass will our concerns be heard and taken seriously. Mothers belong on company boards, in the management of public institutions and on political committees. We can only achieve this together, in all our diversity. That's why I support this campaign!

  • Delphine Takwi

Consultant for Transcultural Dialogue and Maternal Health at the Frauenwerk der Nordkirche

Germany today is an intercultural country. In such a world, maternal health is very important. Maternal health is directly linked to the health of the child: Healthy mothers are more likely to raise healthier children - the well-being of mothers can affect the physical and mental health of their children for years to come. That's why we can no longer remain silent. The time is now for us to stand up, step out and speak clearly about our issues and rights as mothers.

  • Katrin Schmidt

Chairwoman of the Evangelical Association for Women's Health e.V.

I am excited by the idea of making our demands loud and clear in the middle of Berlin with a mass of mothers, women, children and supporters. It's time: we need a fair distribution of care work between all genders and good, supportive framework conditions for mothers and all those who perform care work - not in 30 years' time, but NOW!

Associations and initiatives

  • Advice center for natural birth and parenthood e. V.

Counseling, courses, lectures and open meetings on pregnancy - birth...

The "100,000 Mothers" campaign advocates a society that places mothers* and care work at the center and calls for the consistent inclusion of mothers in all socially relevant decisions.as Beratungsstelle für Natürliche Geburt und Elternsein e. V. we share this vision. In our daily work, we experience the great challenges and the enormous exhaustion that mothers*, parents and care-givers face. We are convinced that structural solutions are needed to provide sustainable relief for families. That is why we are supporting the "100,000 Mothers" campaign to stand up together for real equality, solidarity and a future worth living.

  • Women's work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony

We are committed to the equal participation of women.

Mothers have no lobby. But our social coexistence is based on the love and energy that carers give every day. This must be made visible!

  • Katharina Desery

Head of Press and Public Relations and Board Member of the parent organization Mother Hood e.V.

We think the Hundred Thousand Mothers campaign is great because women* and family issues are hardly ever politically relevant. Family-friendly living conditions, such as fair care work and good healthcare, including better obstetric care, are just two of the most important issues for a society that is fair to mothers and families. It is time to become visible, to draw attention to the concerns of mothers* and families and to make loud demands with a joint campaign such as "One Hundred Thousand Mothers"! We are part of it! It is actually quite clear, Article 6 of the Basic Law: "Every mother is entitled to the protection and care of the community." A quick look at the statistics makes it clear how much we are disregarding this constitutional mandate throughout society and at all levels: Motherhood Penalty, financial dependency, poverty in old age and, as a logical consequence, falling birth rates; the media staging and idealistic reduction of women to the role of carer and nurturer (maternal instinct), from an early age, and men who, although the majority think they take on half of the day-to-day care work, do not do so and then lament that women won't let them (maternal gatekeeping). We can do it better, we actually want to do it better, so let's finally make it happen!

    Honorary Board of Directors

Single parents are true heroes who, with incredible dedication and a lot of love, earn their living independently while managing everyday life with their children. They are predominantly mothers and their ability to successfully combine work and family life deserves not only recognition, but also fundamental appreciation from society. It is high time that the care they provide on a daily basis is recognized as an indispensable part of social life.

  • Wupperfrauen e.V.

We collect biographies of important Wuppertal women

The 100,000 Mothers campaign aims to make women and their achievements visible to society. History is largely written by men. How women live, what they have accomplished and continue to accomplish on a daily basis, and the difficulties they have faced and continue to face are all overlooked. We are delighted that 100,000 mothers in front of the Brandenburg Gate are contributing to greater visibility and more equality.

Our society and politics have a highly ambivalent relationship with mothers* and motherhood: on the one hand, there is a romanticized, stereotypical exaltation that finds expression in the mother myth and mother ideal. On the other hand, mothers* experience various forms of devaluation, disadvantage and discrimination. A society that keeps mothers* trapped in this field of tension, does not consider them in political discourse and even ignores them, and systematically curtails their socio-political participation, is an expression of a poor society that is weakening itself. It is way past time to recognize this - and to change it. Cheers to this campaign and full support ahead!
